Photographer as Storyteller
The question often pops up around here: What exactly is storytelling in photography? Erin Feldman points us to an interview with photojournalist Matt Knisely, who gives his opinion:
“The entirety of the shot is brought to life through the subject, the timing, and the context. It is the photographer’s job to capture it, to bring it out. Before you can tell a great story through a photo, however, you have to get to know your subject. Put the camera down, have coffee, talk with the person. Allow them to open up to you. If you aren’t intentional, the message and the medium fall flat."
