It's All for Rent
Seth Godin reminds us of something we all know; but you’d never know it from our actions:
“It’s all for rent, with a cancellation clause that can kick in at any time.”
Sure, that goes for the photography paraphernalia, but even maybe for photographs themselves. There’s more and more to be said for enjoying the act of photographing without regard for the longevity of the product.
I often assume my photographs will be enjoyed after I’m gone by someone. But after that someone? Chances of them living on are pretty slim. I’ve decided this is a good thing. It forces me to enjoy art for the sake of art, not for someone else’s ideals.
Impermanence can be your best friend if you’re interested in making unique images.
