"How To Become A Pro Photographer in 5 Simple Steps"

Chase Jarvis posted yesterday on the all too common question of how to go pro:

“Got a note the other day from an aspiring photographer. He wanted to know what it takes to become a pro. I thought–very pragmatically–that it’s really not complicated. HARD maybe, but complicated, no.”

I have total respect for Chase and the anti-gear lust stands he’s taken in the past, but this advice misses the critical question most pros forget to ask before dispensing advice: Why?

Is it really worth giving up so much to make a “living” at this? Maybe the answer is yes for you, but you should get acquainted with the facts, before taking 5 simple steps.
