“Journalists' favorite topic is journalism. Bloggers' favorite topic is blogging. Readers' favorite topic is anything but those.” – Dave Pell

I've been guilty of this too much lately. I don't want to put limits on what is post-able, but this is a trap too many writers and photographers fall into.

The way I see it, the path to a more meaningful blog/newsletter goes like this: put out a product (a book, prints, whatever) and show the world how you did it, so they can as well. Getting bogged down in the politics and news of the day around "making" or publishing is a distraction. You may have less to write about daily, but what you do write about will be more meaningful.

My problem is that I've turned the newsletter into my current product and I love it. I'm as proud of it as any book. So, I've got a lot of thinking to do about whether that's smart.

And just like that, I've blogged about blogging again. See? An easy trap to fall into.
